Vacation, Weekend and Retirement Homes

Gambier Island Cabin

Nestled in a private bay, this stunning ocean front property can only be accessed by boat, which has proved to be a challenge when the clients undertook plans to build their vacation home. The shaker styled cabinetry is accented with turned posts, glass doors and a beautiful stainless skirted sink. The built-in buffet doubles as a server, and the tv/fireplace built-in cabinet units offer additional storage for movies and games. The overall design is warm and welcoming, which is exactly what the clients were hoping for!

Lake Country Cottage

Updating this lake front cottage included adding on a master bedroom and ensuite, with a shop area below. The spacious ensuite allowed for a generous vanity and soaker tub. Designed with a rustic look, the vanity and tub skirt compliments the log and timber-framed cottage.

Palm Springs Retreat

When the grandmother of designer Kendra Redekop purchased an existing vacation home in Palm Springs, she new exactly who to hire to completely redesign the space! Kendra’s fearless design sense is apparent in this dramatic makeover, which her “Oma” simply loves! Deleting walls and using sleek, clean lines create a spacious, relaxing retreat. The calming whites and off-whites are anchored with charcoal woodgrains, accented with an artful shot red for a signature look.

Salt Spring Island

Having spent much of her childhood vacations on Salt Spring Island, it was only natural to jump at the opportunity to purchase ocean front property, just a stroll away from the very vacation home she enjoyed in her youth. Enthusiastically tackling the construction of the new family vacation home themselves, the client and her husband broke the construction and finishing into stages.

The first stage was finishing the bathrooms. The ensuite vanity, inspired by an heirloom antique bedroom set, is done in oak, while the main bathroom is done in maple. We look forward to working on the kitchen, which is phase 3 of the project.

Saturna Island

While visiting friends on Saturna Island, Sue and Marti took an evening stroll and stumbled across a “For Sale” sign. Curious, they walked through the property to see what it offered. A short walk through the trees and the property opened up to a fantastic ocean view facing Orcas Island and around to Mt Baker. As they stood in awe of the view, they noticed an eagle perched in a tree close by. The island seemed to beckon them and continued its invitation with the resident Orcas passing directly in front of where they stood.…In that moment, they knew that they had to buy that property. So Sue and Marti embarked on an 8 year project as they planned for and built their vacation home on Saturna Island.

The welcoming post and beam home takes full advantage of the southerly ocean view, with sunlight spilling into the main area throughout the day. Desiring to keep the home true to the location, the design and materials are down to earth and very natural. The cabinetry is done in a lacquered Knotty-Alder, showing the beauty and authenticity of the wood. Fittingly, the perfect granite colour for this kitchen turned out to be called Orca Brown. This home was truly “meant to be.”

Ocean Front Home in Powell River

Many people dream of a living on an ocean front property, so when this couple came across the opportunity to build their retirement home on a beach in Powell River, they seized it! With a love for entertaining and a passion for art, the owners worked closely with architect Lloyd Lamoignan to design their dream home.

Having done the cabinetry in Lloyd’s own home, Generation Cabinets was introduced to the clients and were quickly inspired by their vision for this home. Sleek and minimal but stunning was the clients' desire and together they embarked on a 6 month journey to create the cabinetry design.

The owners chose Generation Cabinets’ sleek “Yaletown” door in a warm glossy maple laminate finish. The design is very linear and minimal, but the impact comes from the scale of the cabinets and the ultra-long handles used to finish them. Functionality was a must for this couple so each work area was well planned out. Attention to detail is reflected in the mosaic backsplashes and the showpiece of the home is the red powder room cabinets.

The Creekside B & B, Vancouver Island

Brad and Krista Porter’s dream to run a bed and breakfast was realized when they found a picturesque acreage in Saltair, on Vancouver Island. With Krista’s degree in Interior Design and Brad’s endless energy, the couple transformed the dated, dark bungalow into a charming, quiet retreat.

The vision included a gourmet kitchen with a massive 12 ft island for prepping and serving. Although geared for function, Krista’s design gives the kitchen a timeless warmth that is welcoming to guests.
